The kolu doll display are an integral part of Navratri celebrations. Though this year’s celebrations have kick-started, the pandemic calls for thinking different during the time yet staying close to the tradition. It is not new that topical themes take up the centre stage in the 9 day long kolu doll display. Smitha Nair, founder of Marigold Creative, Reading Library, Child Enrichment and Creative Space, Kochi shared the picture of a book kolu from last year’s Navaratri celebrations which is now making fair rounds on social media.
This kolu has books arranged, instead of idols displayed in the library space. “We have books for all seasons and reasons,” says Smitha. If kolu display teaches children about our culture, this book kolu adds to its perks of knowing the culture and staying close to books, which is more than essential during times as such.
