April 22 is celebrated across the world to remember the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. The world we live in is under constant conflict. The serenity that one must be enjoying is lost, we know the reason why. Humans are supposed to be the custodians of the resources that Nature has in store for them. The disastrous effects that the earth has been going through include soil erosion, deforestation, toxic pollution without sparing any of the resources, the extinction of insects and animals, has triggered a chain of events that has had directly and indirectly affected our lives. With awareness initiated across the world, we have set forth our journey towards eco-sensitivity. The younger generation has taken things into their own hands and identify themselves as fellows for Nature.
This day recognises the collective responsibility of mankind to promote harmony with nature and the Earth to achieve a just balance among the economic, social and environmental needs of present and future generations of humanity. This year’s Earth Day is based on the theme Protect Our Species.
With the extinction of species at alarming rates, this year’s theme focusses on raising awareness about the accelerating rate of extinction of species and its consequences. This would include global movements and campaigns that would slow down the rate of extinction by watching our actions disrupts the rhythm of Nature.
