Penguin Random House, under the aegis of The Penguin Ray Library, will unveil five unpublished works of Satyajit Ray by 2020. The works to be featured will include essays and illustrations of Ray and the characters he created through Ray’s translation of ‘Tarini Khuro’. The Penguin Ray Library celebrates the author, filmmaker and the auteur of Indian Cinema by showcasing what he had left behind, by associating with the Satyajit Ray Society.
Ray is the recipient of an Honorary Oscar in 1992, apart from 32 national film awards and other international laurels including ‘Prix du document Humain’ award at the Cannes Film Festival. He was also awarded Bharat Ratna in 1992 by the government of India.
His maiden venture, ‘Pather Panchali’ took Indian cinema to the world stage. The first in the Apu trilogy, it was a race towards neorealism with Aparjito and Apu Sansaar that followed. His other works are Nayaka, Aranyer Din Ratri, Seemabaddhaa, Charulata, and the Feluda series.
