Gora focuses on the conflict within Indian society. On the one side are staunch Hindus who believe that following rituals is an essential part of ensuring a stable future for the country, and on the other are the members of the progressive Brahmo Samaj, who equate modernization with a rejection of Hindu beliefs.
Caught in this battle are Gora, Binoy, Sucharita and Lolita, who strive to achieve a balance between their beliefs and their emotions before finally realising that change is inevitable and that a constant readjustment of values and beliefs is the only way for Bharat to achieve its complete potential.
Gora is retold by Nandini Nayar and beautifully illustrated by Kabita Mukhopadhyay. Gora is published by Mango-an imprint of D C Books.
