Noted Malayalam Writer K P Ramanunni wins 2017 Kendra Sahitya Akademi award for his novel Daivathinte Pusthakam
The award comprises of a purse of Rs100000 along with a plaque and a citation.
The winning book portrays a secular story by drawing in depth from the life of Prophet Mohammad and Lord Krishna. Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, Vayalar Award, Bharathiya Basha Parishad Award was also bagged by this.
After winning the award he said,“I wrote this novel because communalism is something I strongly feel about, I am glad that the award has come not too long after I received threats from religious extremists against an article of mine.”
“And I believe this is the first ever novel, in any language, in which Prophet Mohammed appears as a character. So it feels nice to reflect that such a novel has received this recognition,”he added.
Sufi Praanja Katha, Jeevithathinte Pusthakam, Jathi Chodikkuka, Purusha Vilapam, Vendapettavante Kurisu, Charamavarshikam are his other prominent works.
Daivathinte pusthakam was published by DC Books.
