K.Satchidanandan, the pioneer of modernism in Malayalam poetry will receive the Poet Laureate Award at the tenth edition of Tata Literature Live! The Mumbai LitFest. The writer and translator Shanta Gokhale will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for the year.
The recipient of the Ezhuthachan Puraskaram and the Sahitya Akademi Award, Satchidanandan is the most translated contemporary Indian poet. A bilingual literary critic, he has served as the former editor of Indian Literature, the official journal of Sahitya Akademi and was the former secretary to Sahitya Akademi. He is the festival director of the Kerala Literature Festival from the year of its inception.
Satchidanandan said that it was a privilege to be honoured with the award even when his primary focus was writing in Malayalam. He also added that the translations available in English and other Indian and foreign languages, augmented the joy to the national recognition.
He will receive the award on November 14 while Shanta Gokhale will be presented with the award on November 17 at the event. The LitFest is slated to be held from November 14 to 17 at Mumbai NCPA.
