A writer and broadcaster who with his debut title made many his fans, having a great acclaimed father is another feather in his cap, talking about Kanishk Tharoor-son of Shashi Tharoor.
Swimmer Among the Stars: Stories, published by Aleph Book Company in India in January 2016 marked his first title which is forthcoming from Picador in the UK and Commonwealth and Farrar, Straus and Giroux in North America in spring 2017. His short fiction has been nominated for the National Magazine Award.
His pieces on politics and culture have appeared in publications around the world, including the New York Times, Guardian, The National, The Hindu, Caravan, newyorker.com, Los Angeles Review of Books, Al Jazeera America, Roads & Kingdoms, Foreign Policy, Cairo Review, Virginia Quarterly Review, and Guernica. His appearances on radio and TV include BBC’s Today programme, BBC News, BBC Radio Scotland and the Colbert Report.
He studied at Yale, where he graduated magna cum laude and phi beta kappa with BAs in History and Literature, and at Columbia, where he was a FLAS fellow in Persian and South Asian studies. He was a “Writer in Public Schools” fellow at New York University.
An often guest at literature festivals in and around India has popularized him among the common people. The much disciplined and pleasant writer has taken part in various interactive sessions.
