Perumal Murugan is a different and unique voice of Tamil Literature. With his last novel titled Mathorubhagan he had been in news for its controversial content. It was translated to Malayalam under the title ‘Ardhanareeswaran‘ which was published by DC Books. It was also translated to English under the title ‘One Part Woman’ which triggered the controversies.
Perumal Murugan hits again with another novel Kulamathari which is translated to Malayalam by Kabani C under the title Keezhalan.
The novel portrays the life of those who work under Gounders. A young untouchable farmhand, is in bondage to a paternal yet powerful landlord. He spends his days herding sheep and tilling the fields. He struggles to keep a fragile happiness, but endless work and a stubborn hunger gnaw away at his spirited innocence.
Powerful read from Murugan mercilessly portrayed the life and the daily humiliations of untouchablility. This is translated in English under the title The Seasons of Palm.
