The winners of the 49th state awards were declared today by cultural affairs minister A.K. Balan. The jury for the state awards is chaired by screenwriter and director Kumar Shahani.
The award for the best actor was bagged by Jayasurya and Soubin Shahir for the movies Captain, Njan Marykutty and Sudani from Nigeria. The latter won the award for the best film with a popular appeal and Zachariya as the best debut director for the same. Savithri Sreedharan and Sarasa Baluserry shared the award for best character actress for their performance in Sudani from Nigeria.
Nimisha Sajayan nailed the award for the best actress for her performance in Chola and Oru Kuprasidha Payyan.
Kanthan, the Love of Colour was chosen as the best film and Shyamaprasad, the best director for the movie Oru Njayarazcha. Joju George was selected as the best supporting actor for his act in Joseph and Chola.
In the category of music, the awards were bagged by Vishal Bharadwaj (Carbon) for the best music director and Bijibal for the best background score in Aami. Vijay Yesudas is the best male singer for “Poomuthole” from Joseph and Shreya Ghoshal, the best female singer for “Neer Maathalam” from Aami. Harinarayanan won the best lyricist for penning the songs from the movies Joseph and Theevandi.
The award for the best story is for Joy Mathew for ‘Uncle’. Zachariya & Muhsin Perari for the best script and K.U Mohanan for capturing the picturesque frames in Carbon. Odiyan grabbed an award through Shammi Thilakan who won the award for the best dubbing artist. Aravind Manmadan is the best editor and Sinoy Joseph won an award for sound mixing for the movie Carbon.
