The literature of the classical and oldest living language in India will be in focus at the fifth edition of Kerala Literature Festival. A state and a language with a voice of its own, representing colours and cultural diversity with free spirited natives taking immense pride in the literature they grew up with, considering Thiruvalluvar and Thirukural eternal, Tamil is an entity which has a lot to offer, with claims unparallel to any of its contemporaries.
With the writings of the Sangam and Bhakti eras considered eternal and classic, the contemporary Tamil literature cannot be nothing lesser. Ranging from subaltern, geographical and introspective literature, every period in Tamil Literature has the evidence to show its literary magnificence. It is beyond doubt that the odes and poems of the Sangam era, the epics like Silapathikaram and over a hundred year old division of Tamil short story provide a strong foundation to any Tamil literature enthusiast.
KLF 2020 captures the essence of Tamil Literature of yester year and today through the contemporary writers and artists like Dr. S. Revathy, Perumal Murugan, T.M. Krishna, Bama Susairaj, A.R. Venkatachalapathy, Poetess Salma are a few among the list of eminent line up of speakers who will be featured at the fest. The literary pursuits of these writers, the trials they face as writers in Modern India, traversing the unexplored realms of literature like body politics, anti-poetry, caste and identity, reshaping art for will be the topics under focus.
The four day long literature festival scheduled from January 16th – 19th 2020, will be held at the Kozhikode beach.
