With weddings becoming bigger, finding gifts are harder. They are not simply gifts anymore. The umpteen options online and offline stores offer might excite one but could just take up space. Want to make the couple feel special? Give them what they ask for!
This young couple from Calicut shared their choice of gift for their wedding day and why they preferred them through a Facebook post. Rinath Rajendran and Viji Vishwanathan expressed their love for the written word that connected them, by requesting their well wishers to wish them well on their wedding day by bringing books as gifts. The couple had done their bit during the deluge, by donating the money set apart for their engagement function to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
‘Why not books?’ he asked over the Facebook post. ‘Instead of clothes that we could outgrow in a while, instead of the crockery that could crowd the cupboards, gift us words that would build a new world around us,’ the post read. The couple who believed in the charm and nostalgia that used books hold asked to gift them the same. If the decision of gifting something new was resolute, he asked to use half the money they were planning to spend on the gift to buy them books. Ranith also ensures that their gift would reach multiple hands as they would donate the ones they read through public libraries.
They have, without doubt, broken themselves free from the traditions and created an inspirational statement on the most memorable day of their lives.
