Publisher Penguin Random House declared that the 125-year-old Pears’ Cyclopaedia is to have one last printed edition. The decision follows the retirement of its series editor, Dr Chris Cook, and the declining sales of the popular British yearbook.
Chris Cook has edited the Cyclopedia since 1977 and for 40 years he was involved in the annual task of overseeing a varied team of expert contributors, making use of what PRH described as his love of reference books,
The editors at Penguin Random House explained they were wrapping up the publication process. Statistics from Nielsen BookScan have also revealed that sales of the series have sharply declined in recent years.
