The 38th Sharjah International Book Fair witnessed the book launch of Rakhtha Vaishakhi, the Malayalam translation of Khooni Vishakhi. Originally penned by Nanak Singh in Punjabi, the poem is translated to English by Navdeep Singh Suri, the poet’s grandson and the former Indian ambassador to the UAE.
The session which took place on the fourth day of the book fair witnessed the presence of Gulzar, Amna Ehtesham and Shajahan Madampat . Navdeep Singh Suri said that none of his family members had seen the manuscript or printed book of Khooni Vaisakhi, which is the heart-touching story of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, which also depicts Hindu-Muslim-Sikh unity prevailed at that era. Nanak Singh had survived the massacre. Khooni Vaishaki was translated to English when the Jallianwala Bagh massacre was nearing its 100th year, he added.
Stanzas from the English, Shahmukhi and Malayalam versions of Khooni Vaishakhi were read out by Navdeep Sigh Suri, Amna Ehtesham and Shajahan Madambat respectively. The book release was collectively done by Gulzar, Amna Ehtisham, Navdeep Singh Suri, Shahjahan Madambat and Ravi DC at the function.
