Journalist Ravish Kumar has won the Ramon Magsaysay Award for the year 2019, Asia’s highest honour. The award is for “harnessing journalism to give voice to the voiceless.” Ravish Kumar is NDTV India’s senior executive editor and an influential TV journalist. The citation mentioned the Prime Time programme, which “deals with real-life, under- reported problems of ordinary people.”
The other winners of the award include Ko Swe Win, a journalist from Myanmar, Human rights activist Angkhana Neelapajit from Thailand, Raymundo Pujante Cayabyab, musician based in Philippines and Kim Jong-Ki an activist from South Korea working with violence and mental health issues youth.
The award, instituted in the memory and leadership of the third president of Philippine in 1957, celebrates greatness of spirit and transformative leadership in Asia.
