Veteran actor-filmmaker Shashi Kapoor who was a romantic screen icon died at a hospital in Mumbai. Known for his charming looks and dynamic personality, the actor ruled the silver screen in the decade of 70s and 80s.
Actor Randhir Kapoor confirmed the news by saying, “Yes he has passed away. He had kidney problem since several years. He was on dialysis for several years,”. He said Shashi Kapoor died at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
Born as Balbir Raj Prithviraj Kapoor, the actor-filmmaker was the third and youngest son of Prithviraj Kapoor, brother of Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor. He is survived by three children – Karan Kapoor, Kunal Kapoor, and Sanjana Kapoor- and the Kapoor family, the film dynasty of Bollywood.
The government of India honoured Shashi Kapoor with Padma Bhushan in 2011 for his contributions to Art-Cinema. The late actor was felicitated by 2014 Dadasaheb Phalke Award. After Prithviraj Kapoor and Raj Kapoor, he was the third member of the Kapoor legacy to be honoured with the highest award in Indian Cinema.
