This year’s Kannada Sahitya Parishat’s translation award was awarded to Sumangala Mummigati for the translation of The Last Wave by Pankaj Sekhsaria. Translated to Kannada as Koneya Ale, the Sekhsaria’s debut novel revolves around the history and ecology of Andaman Islands. It deals with the natives and their dwindling numbers, the problems of encroachment, lost love their culture and history. Koneya Ale was published by Navakarnataka Publications, Bengaluru in 2018 while The Last Wave was published by HarperCollins India in 2014.
Sumangala is an author that writes about environment and ecology and is curently the programme excecutive of Bhoorameya Bisiyusiru a show on climate change and global warming.
