The award-winning debut novel Serious Men and Miss Laila, Armed and Dangerous are to be adapted for the screen. Serious Men will be a movie under Netflix production, with Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead role, directed by Sudhir Mishra. The novel, which won the PEN/Open book award, follows the life of Ayyan Mani who is navigating class and gender conflict in the chaos of Mumbai. Apart from this, it also seamlessly weaves in the relationship of a father and son from the Dalit community.
Combining the elements of a satire and a political thriller, Miss Laila, Armed and Dangerous is loosely based on the Ishrat Jahan encounter case. Glaring at the entire system, the novel is grounded on the current political scenario.
The novel will be adapted into a TV series, publisher HarperCollins India announced.
