Vaanku, based on a short story from acclaimed writer-scenarist Unni R’s eponymous collection of short stories published in 2018, narrates Raziya’s story as she tries to find her voice as part of her spiritual quest. When Raziya says that her dream is to call the faithful to prayer from the mosque, it has a ripple effect on her family, friends, and society.
Directed by debutant director Kavya Prakash, the film is now running in theatres. Unni R describes the film as a female-centric one that has a strong cast.
The film stars Anashwara Rajan, Nandana Varma, Gopika and Vineeth in the lead roles.The screenplay is written by Bharatanatyam dancer Shabna Mohammed. The lyrics are written by Rafiq. The film is produced by Sirajuddin KP and Shabeer Pathan under the banner of 7J Films. Arjun Ravi is the DOP and Suresh Urs is the editor. Ousepphachan has scored the music for the film.
