Catholic reformist and critic Joseph Pulikunnel passed away at his residence. He was 85. Veteran Christian social reformer and a former faculty in economics and former member of the Kerala University Senate, Pulikunnel has written several books and is the organising editor of the Malayalam Bible Translation Project. He has published the most authentic translation of the Bible in Malayalam. He was the founder and editor of a contemporary publication ‘Oshana’.
Since 1976 he has pursued his interests in social work and founded several social service organizations including the Good Samaritan Project India; the Word and Deed Hospital and Palliative Cancer Care Centre, and a Juvenile Diabetic Centre. He is best known for his independent and scholarly views on the state of the established church in India. His main concerns are on contemporary religious and social problems stemming from the plight of the poor and minority rights.His autobiography was published under the title ‘EKANTHA DOUTHYAM : JOSEPH PULIKKUNNELINTE JEEVITHAM’.
